Labor Day Rodeo
The 93rd Annual Sonoita Labor Day Rodeo Presented by the Santa Cruz County Fair & Rodeo Association “The Best Little Rodeo in Arizona” in location only - over 700 entries and over $40,000 in cash and buckles awarded to the top contestants through out Southwest. August 30, 31 & September 1, 2008 Pre-Rodeo begins @ 1 p.m. daily with the Kid's Rodeo OPEN RODEO STARTS @ 2 P. M. DAILY Rodeo Action Includes: The Wild Horse Race, Ladies Barrel Race, Kids Rodeo, Tie Down Roping, Ladies Breakaway Roping, Incentive Tie Down Roping, Saddle Bronc, Bareback, Bull riding, Team Roping, and Steer Wrestling. Please support the Santa Cruz County Fair and Rodeo Association by attending the Elgin Club Steak Fry Dinner on Saturday and Sunday immediately following the performances and the Free Rodeo Dance with Live Music until 11 pm. Contestant Entry Information and Ground Rules: Call Bonnie White-McDaniel @ (480) 988-2926. To enter all rough stock and ladies barrel race call on Monday, August 25th from 6 to 10 p.m. To enter all other timed events except the Kids Rodeo or Wild Horse Race call on Tuesday August 26th between 6 & 10 pm. Entry Fees - $75 for all events, All events enter twice- must be different days, excluding the **kids events and Wild Horse Race. ***Team Roping (- $120 per team) and Wild Horse Race ($75 per team). To enter the Wild Horse Race Call Slash M Rodeo @ (520) 455-5797 on Tuesday, August 26th from 6 to 8 pm. Limit 5 teams per day, individuals may enter twice with a different team (no same team may enter more than one time). ADDED MONEY: $1000 in the Steer Wrestling, Tie down Roping, Barrel Race & Team roping; $500 in the breakaway roping; $300 in the Wild Horse Race; $1250 added in all rough stock events. All entries are CASH only-No checks-Western Dress code strictly enforced at all times-*Slack after performances Sat & Sun. Contestants and one companion enter free all others pay each day. Free Parking for all contestants, all others at the contestant gate pay $5 parking fee and admission fees daily. Overnight campers pay a $5 per night dry camp fee, $10 with electricity. Stall Rental available for $10 per night, on a first-come first-serve basis. **Kids’ Rodeo Events include: Sat & Sun & Mon: Mutton Bustin’- 5-7 years; Pee Wee Barrel Race- 5-9 & 10-12 years; Steer Riding- 8-12 years; and on Monday Mutton Bustin’. Buckles awarded to winner of each event (except calf scramble). *Youth contestants may not enter the Open Rodeo ***This year the TEAM ROPING will be one long & one short go-round, with a 1.5 second handicap on the 1 st go-round on all teams that are #12 or less using the Triad System. The top 20 teams will come back during the performance in the short go-round each day with no handicap. Top ten teams on 2 steers each day are invited back on Monday for the Shoot Out. The Shoot Out on Monday is one go-round, #12 teams or less will have a 1 second handicap. This event will have over $2000 added and buckles to champion team. Books open @ 7 a.m. rope @ 8 a.m. Sat & Sun. Enter 2 times.
Come enjoy the great tradition of the 93rd Annual Sonoita Labor Rodeo: home of great weather (elevation 5000’), entertainment and fun. Other events include Ladies precision riding team and clown acts. There will be food and trinket vendors on grounds.
